My Norton subscription runs out in a few days and I have been putting off updating it. Then today I get an email telling about the new 2005 antispyware edition that I can get for $10. It is suppose to have all the protection from viruses, worms etc etc. This is the same thing I paid $50 for last year.

    Does this sound legit?

If you registered when you installed they offer you a discount for you to reup with them. I'm not sure what you're seeing is legit, but if you want to forward it to me I'll look and see. [email protected]

    For $10, that sounds sweet.
Includes Norton AV, Anti-Spyware, and a bunch o' other stuff.
    Do it.

Of course, Anti-spyware is free from MSFT, but the AV piece is a must have.

The thing says its just an upgrade, not the full version. I'm not exactly sure how this will work with what you already have or with your subscription running out.

New versions (i.e. 2004, 2005, etc) may contain actual product updates.

The subscription is only for virus definition updates and spyware blacklist updates.

You may get product updates that are specific to your version through LiveUpdate, but a subscription is not required for that I believe.

Of course it's an upgrade, they were offering you an upgrade from your expiring previous version...
