    Turn off the water heater. I repeat, turn off the water heater. THEN open the lowest drain, it's usually an outside spigot. Then open all the taps. Flush the toilets and then you MUST get some anti freeze and pour in all the traps and into the toilet and the tank.

    ps: do not turn the water heater back on until all the water is back to normal. If you turn it on and it starts to roar turn it off immediately, you are burning up the elements.
