A guy I know who is a Texans fan brought up an interesting point about Mario Williams approaching free agency and not being a great fit for their 3-4. If you're Marty Hurney, would you trade this year's first and next year's second for Mario? I'm pretty sure I would do that if you can clear up enough cap space to handle the enormous contract he's going to get. At absolute worst he would cost two first round picks, since that's what you could sign him for even with the franchise tag on him.

Might even only cost the first rounder and maybe a middle to late round pick. Jared Allen went for a first and two thirds, but that first was the 17th pick whereas this is the 8th/9th, plus Allen was coming off of an All-Pro season and not injured. The real trick would be creating enough cap room to fit Mario.

If it involves trading a first rounder, I'm sure that Marty is game.

Somebody get solarte to ask Hurney if he's considered trading for Mario Williams. Or I guess Marty has to wait until the end of the league year before he can comment on another team's players.

What would the combination likely be if we dealt next year's first as opposed to this years?

Dead in the water. Houston would want this year's, and frankly so would I. At 8/9 there's not a great fit for this roster. I'm pretty sure they'll go with Coples if he's there, and he would be a lot cheaper than Mario, but I'd rather take the proven production even if it's costly.

I don't see Richardson going that route especially after his last comments...

Actually I see the Panthers going WR now with the first pick...

    No.
Calais Campbell--at the proper price--is on my list.

I've for some reason come to believe the Panthers would rather score a lot of points and lose rather then score a little and win

plus with his view on FA's... a high priced DL is pretty far down the list

Don't you think Arizona spends whatever it takes to keep him?
