Lefors looked a lot worse than his stat line. He also didn't seem to use his mobility to an advantage - he held the ball too long, then he had to scat and dump the ball off. He just didn't look fluid or consistent, and I'll stand behind my previous thoughts that he won't be as accurate as he was in college.

Basanez had one controlled roll out of the pocket and almost made it. Plus, he has balls and a cannon. He had a number of "almosts". And he looked much more accurate than his billing, which was the big problem. He has size, an allright mind, and he does well in the pocket. Good drops, sets well, always throws off the front foot with heft behind his passes. Does well in PA, too. Sells the fake, though against who he was playing, he wouldn't have to sell it hard. He actually had some things that reminded me of Jake, with some attributes Jake could learn from. Not as talented, though.

In the end, I'm not inclined to care. Neither guy is a world beater right now. Basanez looks to have more upside right now, but with that said, he's nowhere near ready to be in a big boy game. We could stash Basanez on the PS and keep Lefors a year longer, see if he can grow a set, and save face on a 4th rounder I never thought was a good idea.

But will either of these guys ever replace Jake? No. Should we be worried about replacing Jake? No. A good 3rd or so into a QB in 07 or 08 wouldn't hurt, preferably 08.

Maybe it's just because I have to take a shit, but this just read the wrong way.

Anyway, I second mags "don't care." Both seem like good guys and both have feel good stories (Bas's college coach is the one who died recently), but it's hard to see either eventually becoming a Delhomme rising from obscurity to be a starter. Of the two, Bas obviously looked better.

Bas' WRs had quite a few more "omg, how did you drop that?" moments also.

LeFors just made me cover my eyes for the most part.

No. If either of those guys had to play for us this season, we'd be screwed anyway. I'd hope that some veteran would be out there ready to come in, but with Oakland signing Jeff George, we might already be hitting the bottom of the barrel.

Yea, that's the mentality we had with Sean Gilbert.

What's the alternative? Do you mean to tell me that Basanez or LeFors would be ok if pressed into the starting lineup this year?

That's why I raised the keeping just 2 qb's option on the 53. Then we could protect McClover or Haye etc. by having them a roster spot.

I just asked the question as to who would be #3.
Now as far as given an opportunity to play, I don't know how they would do.
It has to be proven with the opportunity, just like Jake finally got an opportunity to play and see what happened with him.
