Thanks for backing me up two six since I wasn't around last night. I think Mears may eventually be good, but only because Ganassi is an open-wheel guy at heart. The #41 is the only chance Mears will get.

The #48 also needs a waaaaambulance

RICHMOND, Va. -- Jimmie Johnson cited over-aggressive driving by Jimmy Spencer and Dale Jarrett as reasoning for the accident that took him out of contention at Richmond International Raceway.

Johnson was running in the top 10 on Lap 180 when Spencer got together with Casey Mears in Turn 4, triggering a multicar pileup that destroyed the front end of Johnson's Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Mark Martin and Ricky Rudd were also involved, but none suffered damage as debilitating as Johnson did.

"For the way (Jarrett) and (Spencer) were acting, I don't know how (Mears) could have made those two so mad," Johnson said. "They tried for three or four laps to wreck him, (Jarrett) did, and he couldn't do it. (Mears) finally cleared him and (Spencer) was inside him and he tried for three or four laps.

"Whatever (Mears) did, he upset two guys and (Spencer) just decided to go from the (bottom) white line all the way to the top and dump him and cause a huge pileup."

Initially, NASCAR was set to park Spencer for wrecking Mears. But after reviewing the tape, NASCAR officials determined Spencer wasn't completely at fault.

"Well, they were looking at the incident on the racetrack," Tim Brewer, Spencer's crew chief, told MRN Radio. "Of course, to us, it looked like the 41 came down. I'm sure to the 41 and his crew it looked like we came up."

    Mears certainly felt that way.

"I was trying to be clean," Mears said. "I didn't want to hurt any of the guys who were running for the championship. We had a good car; we were going to go right by him. Jimmy just wanted to take someone out, I guess.

"I guess everybody's fighting real hard to get that 'lucky dog', trying to get the lap back. I passed (Jarrett), and he was beating the heck out of me because he didn't want me to pass him. And then Jimmy Spencer came up and was doing the same thing, beating the heck out of me. And then he spun me out off the corner."

Johnson's troubles opened the door for more than 10 competitors to qualify for the Chase for the Nextel Cup. Johnson has concerns that similar situations could happen down the road.

"That's one thing I don't like about this points system," Johnson said. "You have people like this than can go out and race this hard and cause problems and may cost us a championship. It could be the last race of the year and have two guys mad at one another and tear up a bunch of race cars. It was a terrible deal."

Johnson said Saturday's race was typical before Spencer and Mears got together.

"One thing about our sport is we race each other every weekend," Johnson said. "It's not like other professional sports where you only see the other team once or twice a year. Our sport policies itself that way. I didn't see anyone after me or trying to do anything out of control. It was a pretty basic race until that ordeal happened.

"I didn't think there was a bulls-eye on me. It was just people racing like idiots. I don't understand it."

After extensive work to the front end of the Lowe's Chevrolet, Johnson returned to the track and eventually finished 62 laps down in 36th position.

It was worth it, however. By returning to the track, Johnson moved back past Dale Earnhardt, Jr. into second in the championship standings.

it should be mandatory that the drivers have to look at the replay before they start runnin their mouths and makin themselves look like a fool.

case in point, jimmie and casey saturday night. they are both very wrong.

it amazes me how people can argue something that was that clear what with the dotted line there and all.
