You give me Carolina vs. the field, I'll take the field, but there's no one team that looks better than the Panthers. Honestly I'm surprised that so many are predicting a winner out of the AFC since all their teams look flawed to me.

Dude...I agree. I fall squarely into the homer camp myself. I think we should dominate on defense, especially if we improve 3rd down defense. The offense will come along. We match up well with just about everyone. My biggest concern is our goddamn schedule, which is very tough. Fortunately, everyone in the East and South are in the same boat. It could be a Super Bowl by attrition...

Yeah, that record was one of the things that surprised me. Before going through the games I thought they would compete for a wild card spot, and maybe they will, but I had them losing a lot of games in the first half of the season. One of the other surprising notes was Jacksonville doing so poorly. I wouldn't rule out bias influencing my opinion of those two teams, but that seems like it would be less of a factor in game by game predictions where I'm trying to anticipate the matchups.

It seems like everyone wants to pick the Colts to win the Super Bowl. They'll have a shot to get there because the AFC appears to be wide open, but I have to think that the NFC winner would be the more complete, battle-tested team.

The thing is, Indy took some huge steps back this off-season. What makes anyone at all think that this is their year of all seasons is beyond me. I'd love to see anyone explain it, but people don't. Like Don Banks, they just make some empty comments about how this will be the year Manning figures it out.

They had some pretty bid defensive losses. Thornton and Tripplett, neither were All Stars but were nice players that were part of that improved D.
