Yea, I think the staff, as is, is doing fine. Not sure that Rip was either an upgrade or downgrade. I do like the way the entire defense is playing, given what's out there on the front line. Stopping the run was not going to be easy, and probably not even an alarming concern for Meeks. I think we're doing a nice job rotating DL's, and getting pressure on every QB we play--week in, week out.

The secondary, as a whole (Gamble), needs to catch more passes, but Godfrey has 4, and Marshall finally snagged one (at the perfect time with perfect trail coverage) last week.

Continuity is critical, on all fronts. The passing game proved that this year. We're not out of the hellhole yet--need to see another few weeks of good passing from Moore and good WR play to feel all the way better.

I think that many new assistant coaches, coming into 2009, coupled with a tough schedule (2 of 3 on the road, all vs. winning teams), was a horrible set of combinations. But, shit, what can you do.

Lot of chatter about Baker, probably because he's very loud, but I like him too and think he's a keeper.

Going into 2011, I would almost (sad as it might sound) build your team around Meeks and this scheme. I am a big fan of not giving up a ton of touchdowns, and a bigger fan of the speed of this defense. There are other factors to build around (passing game, RB's, O-Line), but I am impressed with the D, and have been since about this time last season. It's a very simple, assignment-oriented defense, but Meeks came out last week and did the whole 1-3-3 front deal, with lineman walking around pre-snap. Seems to be a trend this year, and it worked well for us vs. SFO.

It's almost too sensible to (if it's a veteran guy), hire Gruden for a shitload of cash to install some actual concepts on offense. He has an erection for our personnel, no question. But if they go young/new, I just hope ownership is not stupid enough to throw Meeks and/or the C2 system out, because it fits this defensive personnel like a fucking glove.

If Carolina's passing game can match Sunday's efficiency consistently, they will win games--probably more than we would like to believe. Hard to lose when you pass for 70%, 300 yards, and your defense holds the opponent (consistently) to under 200 yards passing with a negative TD to INT ratio.

Rip's coaching them, and that's a start. McCoy made one guy his friend and made that a career.

and yeah, I mean it's not ideal to lose them all, but somehow keeping Meeks on board with a guy who's into that would be ideal.

Coughlin has to shit the bed to not stay, so Cowher would be in SD (I don't know they fire Turner), here (not really), SF (maybe?) or Dallas (sounds like Jerry). I don't know that JDR gets the boot, but they're awful. Fox wouldn't go there, it's a downgrade. NY job isn't available. SD might work, but for reasons above, I don't think it'll work.

So I dunno. I don't see better available.
