"A player spiking or throwing the ball after a down has ended, with the exception of a touchdown, will now result in a five-yard penalty."

I can imagine that refs are tired of having to chase and pick up balls all the damn time that could just as easily (and more quickly) be tossed or handed to them. It makes sense to me.

Yeah, TD celebrations are fine, but celebrating everytime you touch the ball is kind of stupid. It's really gotten out of hand in recent years.
I'd rather see a guy run over someone, make a great catch or lay somebody out than see some stupid "look at me" dance afterward. You don't play football at the club, don't dance on the field.

Nothing wrong with the rule. Why delay the game chasing the ball all over the place? This penalty is actually already being enforced as an interpretation of the delay of game rule. Now they put it in explicitly so the players will understand better. This is not an anticelebration rule. Those are 15 yarders.

You just hate to see games decided over petty rules. Sooner or later its gonna cost someone a W.

It's stupid, if only because it wasn't a big deal to begin with. I mean, really, was anybody calling for this a year ago? Two years ago? These are grown-ass men, playing a game meant to entertain people and distract them from their shitty 9-5 jobs.

It's just emotion. Leave it the fuck alone, before we have 32 teams full of robots.
