need help on my comp

this is my first build computer and i am not sure what cause this problem...pls help

MB: Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+
RAM: Samsung PC 2700 RAM
PS: Antec P4 ATX12V 400 Watt Power Supply
Video Card: Visiontek Geforce 3
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1200JB
CD-RW Drive: liton 34x12x40


after i have finish setup my computer, i try to install win2k.
when i start up my system, it says MBULtra133 BIOS Version 2.20.1.12. then it starts detecting...at first it was ok. it goes to blue windows setup screen and start loading files.
after it finish loading, it says setup is starting windows and it just stop there. i think the computer freeze cuz i try crtl-alt delet and nothing happen. i try winxp too and it's the same problem.

pls help.....i am getting headache on this problem already....

I had trouble on an older model PC getting Win2000 server to install until I reset the BIOS settings back to the defaults.

Just for sake of clarification, is this a new PC? If not, check the BIOS settings, and also whether that BIOS is compatible with Win2000. If it's a new PC, I'll leave it to the others to help out, since I've never had a problem on newer PC's.

Does your motherboard have integrated video as well?

Sometimes when you are setting up Windows 2000 (not sure about XP, but I imagine it's the same) if you have integrated video AND a video card, the OS will install fine but when you boot up for the first time the OS gets stuck at the splash screen and stays there. This is because the OS is only sending the signal to the on-board video when it is finishing booting up. If you have this problem, you can disconnect the monitor cable from the video card and plug it into the inegrated video and it will work.

If this describes your problem, what I suggest you do is remove the video card, connect the monitor to the on-board video, and see if that works. Either do that or reinstall the OS without the additional video card. Then once you're done with the install and you can boot up normally, add the video card. You still might have to go to Device Manager and disable the on-board video for it to work....

If this doesn't describe your problem, then find a section of lead pipe about 2' in length and have at it and then go buy a Mac (there ya go Y2, feel good about that ?) Or see Mark at Staples, he'll fix you up.

you may have to disable the on board video on the motherboard also. I had the same problem and had to set the jumper on the board also.

this is the new pc.....all the hardware are new...and i had set it to default on BIOS but it didn't work...this mobo does have onboard sound and lan and i have disable them but the result is the same.

this motherboard doesn't have a onboard video....so i have to plug my monitor cable to my Visiontek Geforce 3 card..

when i was installing my heatsink on my processor..i accidently break some component on the board....will it be the problem.....

Nah...breaking things usually doesn't affect their performance.

What kind of noise did it make when you broke it ?

Yeah. The better the noise, the better the odds are that you fixed it by breaking it.
