My wife is taking web design and graphics. She wants to be able to be able to work on her stuff at work when the kids are asleep. (she is a nanny for a set of doctors) any recommendations?

Do NOT purchase a Dell laptop. I am the owner of one and have had a hard drive replaced, and CDr/DVD drive replaced in less than 6 months after purchase.

most anything would work new now a days... just make sure it has IMO at least 512Mb of RAM... anywhere from 1.2Ghz and up processor... and has Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office installed on it... I'd suggest Office 2003 over XP, but only because you won't have to bother upgrading later

Oh yeah and make sure it has a built in Floopy, CD (or DVD? or writeable if ya want), a built in 10/100 Network card, and a built in modem. (some people like the external better, but judging from your original network question earlier this one will be MUCH easier for you.

I've had the Compaq (Junk) HP (Not horrible), Dell (Same as Builder) and the Sony VAIO. The Sony is by far the best laptop on the market for the money without going to alienware. It's a little pricy but well worth it.

they aren't high dollar actually quite resonable considering their specs... you won't find a "name brand" laptop that cheap with the same specs... if you just want a cheap ass laptop scroll down the celerons are lower on the page
