NBA expansion

While I'd like to see a team in Charlotte, I'm not sure that expansion is good for the NBA. There are already too many sorry-ass high schoolers going pro as it is.

I think Stern and co. have known about this new group all along. They allowed Shinn and Ray to mave b/c this is going to be the quickest ticket out of the league for them. If Charlotte had met Ray and Shinn's demands, there is no telling when they would be out. Stern will act quickly on getting a team back here because the arena talk is till fresh in Charlotte minds. Stern will want to get something done before a baseball stadium is built b/c if that happens I think he realizes Charlotte will be done with the NBA. We could have a team back here by 2003-04 season. JMO

I don't think Charlotte can handle MLB. I like the idea of a AAA stadium downtown, although the fact that I live 2 miles from Knights Stadium makes me wish the Knights would stay. Maybe Fort Mill could get it's own team. Can you see a single-A team playing at Knights Stadium?

Nobody can, really. They need a salary cap. A strict one.

I knew that. I was just reaponding to Math Majors.

I'm not real stoked about the gov't paying for the building. I like what Richardson did - thank god for the PSL holders.

I guess the NBA isn't a viable enough product to market PSL's. If not, why do we need it?

That is why I think the NBA will try to move quick on doing something about a team while there is still talk of "free money" around. Once a baseball stadium gets funded with that money, you can forget a new arena for a while. Unless someone else comes in here and builds one with their own money.

Thing you have to remember meat, Richardson owns that stadium. If yall build one yourselves, you own it. You shouldn't look at it as just a home for an NBA team. St. Louis has an arena that can hold an NBA team, but they use it to attract other things.

That would be a deterent for me, even at the AAA level.

Doubt it will happen ever happen at the AAA level. You have so many players moving up and down throughout the year. Salary numbers would fluctuate so much. When you are called up from the minors, your slary automatically increases to the major league minimum even if you sit the bench for one game and get called back down. Just too many variables to get an exact number for a cap.
