    season's not over yet.

But I'd say there are less immediate contributors at CB than WR.

Oh, McCareins is RFA, too. 3" shorter, ten pounds heavier, similar numbers of starting experience and catches. Fourth round.

Bennett has more catches early. More TDs overall.

So draft CB first and come back in third with a WR along with signing a proven starting mid level WR

I could deal with Strait, Berrian, and a good backer. There will be plenty of those.

    Strait would rock.

Berrian, I dunno. We'd do it and use him the way we need to use Smith. Better than Lee Evans, I guess.

A third round linebacker's perfect value for it. Just good enough to be a starter, enough value to have him be fast without being stupid. Not too much value put into a guy who'll probably be a part time starter his first year or two.

With that combo, I'd go 4 with a G/T project.

There was no money last year. Not knowing Foster's health, the Davis signing was more important than any receiver that was available. Delhomme was the best qb signing for us as well - considering who was available and our $$. I think Delhomme is a better fit here than Plummer.

I'm not arguing your assessment of the WR signings, I'm just pointing out that I think they did an admirable job considering our cap situation.

As far as Bruce Nelson - I don't get it.

An average job. Getting one active reserve out of that group is probably about all you can ask from that group. You don't make an entire receiving unit out of scraps. If it's important to get a starting WR, you go get it. You don't bring in a bunch of backups and hope, anymore than you go buy a ton of dime backs and hope they're all starters. None of their other options had much promise, either.

You can't do it all at once though. I don't wish we had David Boston, Coles and Price were way out of our budget (and sensibilities).

The only day one pick I can argue with over the last 2 - even three years - is Bruce Nelson. Siedman would be a distant second, but from what I've seen from him, I think he'll be a player. I would rather have a WR than Bruce Nelson. When you add Brezinski to that, it makes you wonder.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

It'll be interesting to see how we address these issues next year. We will obviously pay for Free Agents if they are the right fit, as we did with Davis.
