It certainly does help when the team owns its own facility, but they do generate a ton of revenue on the luxury suites, club and all the south lawn activities on game day. Plus they are always renting out the stadium to business for all sorts of stuff. There is activity there every week. I think it is all that extra investment they put into the deal they do not want to share.

I am not sure if I can fault them. As an owner that has to maintain my own stadium, I am not sure I want to share the revenue I earn outside of football operations with other owners who have had thier stadiums given to them and therefore do not have that extra expense. You start breaking it out, and there becomes a lot of inequity going on.

How valuable the actual franchise is is not quite the right measuring stick either. It's about the stadiums.

Check out how many of that 9 have new stadium deals that allow them to squeeze revenue from their stadium deals that other teams cannot. I really don't know about each stadium deal but I'm pretty sure that the stadiums in Philly, NE, Houston, and Denver had quite a bit of public money in them. The Jets and Giants are next for that gravy train. I have no idea how the Carolina deal was done.

The other two are Dallas and Washington and they could go 0-16 and make money each year. Plus, Washington actually redid Fed Ex to put more luxury shit in and Dallas was one of the forerunners in selling sponsorships outside the current league agreement to generate revenue.

So, the key is to get the state to pay for/build your stadium so you can then free up your revenue streams on other things.

I think the point of the article is that the definition of revenue is not consistant. They are including revenue from certain sources as part of the DGR but then not sharing it. It sounds like the other teams want it shared or kept out of that total.

Furthermore the more money the Panthers are handing over to other teams the more they will make up for their loss outta OUR pockets.

Not to make this political but to any democrats reading this, this is a great explanation of corporate taxation.

How much you suppose Carolina's franchise is worth without Green Bay and Pittsburgh?

Or, put another way, how much do you think you'll like football when those franchises either cease to exist or are no longer competitive? At all.

:D I can think of a few others too.

The NFL was somewhat lucky to get revenue sharing in when they did - long before HUGE bucks came along.

it's rare for a team to own their own stadium nowadays, and most of the ones that do that are over ten years old have asked for renovation money (wait for it, it's coming in about 5 years). And honestly, it's a heavy burden to ask of a team - and is probably why the team's been pushing less desireable attractions for its facilities (soccer, bowl games).

So I could see the teams with ownership and/or control over their stadiums to be worried about their vested interest making money for someone else. You spend $180 mil on something, you'd feel that way.

is this what's holding the CBA back?
