mp3 player

Anyone use a cool, low processor taxing player? I use WinAmp now, but it seems to drag down my system when I'm playing music. Sucks to be on the internet and have songs skip all the way thru.

May be something else, but I'm gonna start with the obvious.

Get a new computer

Sounds like that's one slow sumbitch. My old computer (133Mhz processor) did that with Winamp.


With XP I just use Windows Media Player.

I would just burn them to a CD. If your stereo doesn't support mp3 play back, then just get a boom box that does. $100 or so and you can play CD-R, CD-RW and MP3. Then you can take your music where you go and your computer is free to surf.

Another thing you could try is optimize your hard drive or also keep your mp3's on a different hard drive than your web browser.

One of the problems I've noticed with WinAmp specifically is that when you add a lot of songs to the playlist, it seems like it slows everything down. I keep my MP3s in one folder and I like to just add the whole folder (100s of songs) to the playlist - but a lot of times when I do that, WinAmp flakes out a little, saps a lot of processor time, etc. So most of the time I select about 20-30 and just add them to the playlist for a few hours.

I've also noticed that some skins can cause it to flake out and bog down the computer. I still like it enough to use it, but I've never tried anything else. Except Windows Media Player of course.

Well...if I could get my cdrw working....I would

I already use a different hard drive. Defragged it tonight and changed some winamo settings and drive settings and it's better.

Mark- You ain't selling me no new computer. I can build my own for less than that. But then again, maybe that's where I'm running into trouble now. How fast would that be @ 529?

slower than christmas. 530 buys you 900 MHz celeron, 128 MB RAM 60 GB and a cr-rom... I wouldn't sell it to a friend.
