What is Mozilla/4.0 and why would I not be using IE 5.5

I think Mozilla is Netscape.

I stopped using Netscape 'cause it's a memory hog, Netscape offers no support, and I can get IE updates without having to upgrade IE.

I went to a scan site to check ports and it gave me this info---
Your IP Address #########
Your Host Name clt74-32-124.carolina.rr.com
Your Browser Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)
Real IP The IP address you're trying to hide is #########

You've been to 37 site(s) in this browser session.
Your screen width and height is 800 and 600.

I took the IP number out of that but I have never used Netscape before. How do I get back to IE ?

Mozilla was originally the "engine" behind the Netscape browser. A while back (IE 4.0?) Microsoft starting putting Mozilla in the HTTP_USER_AGENT variable, as there were a lot of people out there that were trying to write server applicaitons that wouldn't serve microsoft internet browsers (because they hated microsoft of course). So BillyG decided to get around it by including the "Mozilla (comaptible" striung in there. Note that this just says the browser is compatible with Mozilla....pretty slick trick I guess.

But don't worry, if it's Netscape, the little "IE" won't show up in server logs, on that page, etc.
