So a medical settlement is in the future? How would this effect the cap for next year assuming he takes a settlement?

I doubt you see an injury settlement happens. If he truly is done, they will place him on IR and cut him after the season is over. As for the cap, he has $2.4 million in pro-rated bonus monies left over. They could spread that over the 2008 and 2009 seasons (at $1.2 million each). he is due base salaries of $2.85 million next year and almost $4.25 million in 2009. He also has a $500k reporting bonus in the next two years.

Remember, he converted a roster bonus to a game-by-game bonus in the offseason. Not sure how that effects the cap, buy we are saving $150k for each game he doesn't play.

A settlement is something you see in camp, or I guess it could be early in the season, for a player who won't be hurt the whole year, and who would be cut off IR when well if he went on IR.

Once the year where he got hurt is up, the team can just cut the player without any settlement. I think they may owe him a small amount, but its not negotiable, so no settlement.

I don't think Morgan has guarnateed money in the rest of his contract, so money wise, we're done with him. Capwise, we have the signing bonus acceleration.

I wish him well. Its not his fault that his body breaks in the NFL. Most people's would. It's just that most of those get screened out in HS or college.

I wonder why they don't put him on IR?

I am pretty happy with our linebackers without Morgan. I was pretty concerned when they did not bring back Draft but it has worked out well. Diggs is ok at WLB. I would probably hang on to him until one of the young guys steps up or we find a better option.
