Yep. Proehl's sucked, too. it's somewhat of a testament to Smith that he's producing, but it was time to have it start. Second year starting, after all. Maybe he CAN start, but fuck it. He must. There's no way we will have success finding two starters.

Delhomme's passes have too much velocity on them?

I guess that Bret Favre thing did'nt quite work out in Green Bay did it?

Bottom line is this; CATCH THE BALL. Those making excuses for dropped balls need to get a clue. If you're a pro WR you need to......oh I dont know, maybe CATCH THE BALL. WR's who drop passes dont stay around long, quit blaming the QB.

The Buc's added McCardell and Jurevicious in one offseason and ended up with a Super Bowl ring. Of course they already had Keyshawn, but point is we can add 2, but Hurney will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to make it happen.

I'm not making excuses for not catching the ball. That everybody's had problems with drops, maybe we should just fire everybody?
I'm not blaming Delhomme, either. He was an excellent passer working with a more modern passing style.

They call it analysis. Get mad at it, but it's what it is. It's not an insult to our average quarterback.

But that's the thing. Velocity with a good system, and the way a ball really should be taught to be thrown, IMO, is wonderful. I love velocity. I went on day in and day out about Leftwich and Boller's velocity on the football. I don't remember dogging it.

Nonetheless, these rainbow passes have had an impact on the ability from everyone from Smith to Proehl to Foster to catch the ball.

They also had a proven coach and QB.
Granted, they did an excellent job bringing in those two, along with Dilger and Pittman. That was freaking outstanding.

Us, I don't see that being the priority, sadly.

    ???

    >>too much velocity

I can't find who said that, but yeah, that's the same type of thing that's haunted John Elway and Brett Favre. They just throw the ball too damn hard.

    Re: ???

Tank may be referring to what I said earlier. But my point was not that Jake throws with too much velocity, just that I didn't think he was "lofting" most of his passes. To me, it seems that more often than not he's got plenty of zip on the ball.

But I also made the point that many of Jake's passes are not caught. By our receivers OR by defenders who "should" have the interception. The one common factor is Jake. So I'm wondering if there isn't something else about how he throws that makes the ball just a bit more difficult to catch. Not the velocity. Pro receivers are paid to catch high-velocity passes. Something else. Motion? Timing? Something unintentionally deceptive about the way he throws? I dunno.

Not blaming Jake really. Just noting that a lot of his throws are dropped, and not just by our receivers.

Agreed on the proven coach and quarterback. However, the optimistic side of me sees that we are following a plan. Improve the defense first (Peppers, Fields, Witherspoon....contract extensions for Rucker, Jenkins and Buckner) and be effective pressuring the quarterback and stopping the run. Improve the running game on offense (Davis and the offensive line upgrades). What's next......improving the corners and improving the receiving corps. I think you will see upgrades next season in both areas with greater attention to both.....although it's possible that linebacker might end up getting priority with our 1st round draft pick.

Maybe Jake lacks that intensity in practice, so their not used to it come game time, maybe their used 'senior citizen' Peete passes, maybe if they'd get a little more open, Jake could float one in their, but we've seen that didn't help Wiggins none. It's not just WR's for the Panthers that drop passes.
