Monitor Problems

My monitor comes on when I fire up the PC at home, then goes black as soon as my desk top comes up. The light on the front goes from green to orange. I'd love to get some suggestions on things to try before I go out and buy a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, but I've done that. In fact, that's the first thing I always check. I don't understand why it seems to be fine while booting up and goes black when it gets to the desk top.

When you say "as soon as my desktop comes up" do you mean it's gotten past the splash screen and Windows has loaded completely? If it's not getting past the splash screen, then I had a similar problem one time - turned out to be a video card driver problem.

But if Windows loads completely and then it goes blank all of a sudden, without any touching, moving, or anything, um.....I ain't got no clue. Maybe something inside is getting too hot too fast or something......

Yep, it's past the splash screen and windows is fully loaded. That's what's stumping me. BTW, thanks for the link, Bear, I'm checking it out now.

You don't have an IBM G40 monitor, do ya?

Depending on the monitor, is there a power savor configuration?
If the green light turns from green to yellow, it means the monitor has lost the computer signal ( you still have power). As they said above
1. check your monitor cable (Both ends)
2, your video card / driver
3. see if you have some power saving setting on the PC

Math - Not an IBM.

Savio and barracuda - I keep hearing video card. I'll check that tonight. If I can't get it to work tonight, my IT person said that I could bring the monitor in tomorrow and hook it up to a pc here, so as to difinitively determine if the problem is in my pc or the monitor.
