    Piper's version 0.0 Mock Draft

    1. San Francisco 49ers Aaron Rogers QB California

9ers have lots and lots of needs, but passing on a local kid with their current PR situation probably won't help matters.

    2. Miami Dolphins Cedric Benson RB Texas

Unwilling and really unable to make a trade to get the top RB, the Dolphins look for a more mentally stable Texas RB to rebuild their offense around.

    3. Cleveland Browns Alex Barron OT Florida State

The Browns have ignored their offensive line to the point of critical mass. Many will cry reach, as thier is a debate to the top lineman inthe draft. However, great workouts and a great need propell Barron to this spot.

    4. San Diegoe Chargers PROJECTED TRADE WITH Bears, #12 and 28 for #4

    Braylon Edwards WR Michigan

The Chargers O just got more explosive. They go with Edwards for the better speed over the bigger Mike Williams.

    5. Tampa Bay Bucs Travis Johnson DT Florida State

Bucs get a 300 pound penetrator to play the 3 technique and allow McFarland to move over to the position better suited for him.

    6. Tennessee Titans Antrel Rolle CB

The Titans make it a family affair and pair their Rolle cornerbacks with Kevin Dyson likey to leave in FA and Andre Woolfork not quite living up to his 1st round billing.

    7. Oakland Raiders Derrick Johnson LB Texas

A playmaking OLB that hits hard and creates turnovers, Johnson will give that old soft Raiders D and young sharp edge.

    8. Arizona Cardinals Carnell Williams RB Auburn

With Emmit likely gone, Denny puts his faith in the Caddy to drive him to the playoffs.

9 Washington Mike Williams WR Southern California

Could use and end here more, but Gibs decides to turn his offense into what he wants, he needs a big physical receiver to help Ramsey.

10 Detroit Erasmus James DE Wisconsin

With Rodgers locked up, Mooch starts building a scary looking front.

11 Dallas Adam Jones CB W. Va

Sleeper of the draft. 5'11, but has long arms, smoothand athletic. Can return kicks.

12 Chicago (from San Diego by way of NY ) Shawne Merriman OLB Maryland

Big athletic LB good fit for Lovie.

13 Houston Shaun Cody DT Southern California

Capers has never seen a Tweener he didn't like.

14 Carolina Elton Brown OG Virginia

Hoping we lock up Moose. If we were to go Clayton, we'd have 3 fairly short recievers. regardless, Brown is a powerful player, rare athleticism for his position.

15 Kansas City Marlin Jackson CB Michigan

A bigger corner that can help out in the run on the edge and is a major upgrade in coverage.

16 New Orleans Thomas Davis FS Georgia

Can play the physical style that Haslett wants and keep the ball rolling for the Saints end year defensive improvement (of course, when you are #32, no whee to go but up).

17 Cincinnati David Pollack DE Georgia

High motor player that can play the run and rush the passer.

18 Minnesota Carlos Rogers CB Auburn

Gives Minnesota a good pair of corners with Winfield.

19 St. Louis Jammal Brown OT Oklahoma

The RT position was a weak one this year, and frankly Pace had an off year and might not get franchised this year. Even if he does, Rams won't give him a multi year deal so Brown can play either side and move over the next season.

20 Dallas Marcus Spears DE LSU

Parcells wants more size? how's this 300 pound DE that can rush do it for ya?

21 Jacksonville Dan Cody DE Oklahoma

Big time need at end drops in thier laps.

22 Baltimore Mark Clayton WR Oklahoma

Clayton drops a bit, but Baltimore snatches him up for need.

23 Seattle Channing Crowder ILB Florida

Big weakness in Seattle this year was the run defense in this aging linebacking corps. Crowder, a Junior has declared a year early and looks the part at 6'3, 250, and should run in the 4'6 range.

24 Green Bay Matt Roth DE Iowa

Pass rush has slacked in Green Bay as the final run on ends goes

25 Denver Heath Miller TE Virginia

With the ends they need gone, the Rat takes the best fit for his offense with this athletic TE.

26 New York Jets Ronnie Brown RB Aubun

With Lamont Jordon a likely goner in FA and Martin a year older still (despite a resurgent season), Brown comes in to fill the void.

27 Atlanta Wesley Britt OT Alabama

Atlanta tackles, truth be told, haven't been very good at pass protection is a long while.

28 Chicago Alex Smith TE Stanford

Still hoping Rex Grossman can come back and stay healthy, and perhaps getting a veteran backup if not, da Bears look for the next Dit-ka.

29 Indianapolis Anttaj Hawthorne DT Wisconsin

A bigger one gap type defensive lineman that Dungy would be foolish to pass up.

30 New England Corey Webster CB LSU

Law probably won't resign, and Troy Brown, even with 4 picks, does not need to be starting at CB, playing 3rd WR, and returning kicks.

31 Philadelphia Roscoe Parrish WR Miami (FL)

Gives Philly a real threat next to Owens.

32 Pittsburgh Tony Ficklin OLB San Jose St.

College DE that will move over the rush linebacker in the Pros.

Right now, my preferred pick, I guess, regardless of anything else that happens (other than an OT signing, of course)

A freaking TE? This one is hosed
    14. Carolina Panthers: Heath Miller, TE, Virginia

After a horrendous start and enduring injuries to many key players you just can't say enough about how the Panthers bounced back and made a playoff run down the stretch. With that said there are a number of areas where Carolina could use some help including offensive line and safety, but a top tight end like Miller could really add a new dimension to their offense. While he isn't in the same class as Kellen Winslow, Jr. this guy is a very good athlete who can be a force in the passing game, he is heads and shoulders above the other tight end prospects in this Draft and, needless to say, would represent a major improvement over Kris Mangum and Mike Seidman. The team also suffered tremendous losses up front along the offensive line last offseason with Todd Steussie (Tampa Bay), Jeno James (Miami) and Kevin Donnelley (Retirement) all moving on so Jammal Brown of Oklahoma would be an excellent choice as well and with his ability play either the right or left side he could team with Jordan Gross to form one of the best young tackle tandems in the league. With Stephen Davis facing a career-threatening injury and DeShaun Foster unable to stay healthy the team could surprise and nab a running back if one were to fall into their laps as well.

yeah i saw that tonight too. I guess there will forever be a bonehead or two that figures Fox & Co goes for the "obvious" upgrade at TE in round 1 huh?

That one, along with a few others, kind of made me lose interest in clicking on mock links. For now.

They'll start putting more effort into it after the draft. Right now they are just pluggin guys in where they rate without much consideration for need or what teams currently have.
Mangum and Siedman have shown to be active in the passing game when targeted. Problem is, this offense doesn't target them enough...thus, making it appear to be a need on the surface.
