They built their offense around Brees first which was my point. I agree the defense does need help to get to the Saints level. Their defense is far from stellar though and the days of being elite on both sides of the ball are long gone.

It's also a bit early to be glomming on to CBs DEs and DTs since clearly there's no Suh or Peppers type prospect this year.

You said just a few spots, so I should change it to around 12 or so? Because everyone is dying for the 8th or 9th pick. Trading down only takes a call, right? Just like a good front office simply won't let Chud leave and shit?

Seriously, just stop trying to have a normal conversation with other people, saying they don't get it. You're astonishingly stupid. And you're a fucking suck up.

I know. Let's ignore defense altogether, get a G, and turn Cam into Brees and go win Sooperbowlz.

Nevermind Cam is still young and very limited in his reads, is going into his second year, and might have a different OC.

Fuck the defense. Who needs em! We proved this year that having a 7th ranked offense and a 1,003,450,011th ranked defense gets us into the playoffs!

    ....

    ...wait, no.

    New to the forum

New to the forum but have been following for a couple of years

I don't like this draft for defense. At least not at 8 or 9. IMHO we need help at DT and CB. This draft is weak at DT, unlike last years. and Claiborne will be gone in the top 5.

Thought I'm not sold on Greg Hardy yet after having a whole year to show me something, I'm also not sold on Quinton Coples.

I say we take best available with the 8/9 pick. Offense or defense. No Marty Hurney fan here but it served us well when we selected Dan Connor. He's no Beason but think about how much worse the D would have been without him.

    welcome aboard.

I'm OK if Claiborne is gone. I don't see both he and Kirkpatrick going, and I'd be OK with him.

Of course, we don't know who will be best available with any real ideal for a while, but best player isn't unrealistic. We can use a lot.

I've been somewhat disturbed by a perceived lack of cover skills with Kirkpatrick. He is tough and will lay a hit, plus he has SWAGGER, but watching him play made me go from favoring him as the 1st round pick to being pretty dubious about it. I won't flip out if that's their choice, I was just hoping to see a better player out of him than I have (why I'm flabbergasted that LSU didn't pass downfield more). Claiborne isn't elite either, but I am at least confident in his cover skills.

This is just not true at all. The Saints have actually been very defense-heavy in the draft over the last decade, and unless you want to pin their offensive success on Reggie Bush & Robert Meachem, then the picks they did make for the offense didn't really contribute all that much.

Ive had issues with this teams size on D for awhile now, so i do like the sound of Kirkpatrick and Claiborne, both are pretty big corners size wise.

another reason id love Upshaw BTW but i guess fit could be an issue.

Still already has some serious knee history so thats a double no from me.

It would be nice to pull off another Beason/Kalil trade down scenario, if we could trade the 8 into say a Te'o/Jenkins deal, address LB and CR you'd still have another 2nd for DT or DE. I wouldnt be against drafting another CR early either, there is some nice talent there that could fall to us.

I wonder if Kirkpatrick could match up with Jimmy Graham?

Te'o isn't in this draft, and no Kirkpatrick cannot cover Jimmy Graham.
