Do you think Charlotte could support a team? Memorial Stadium would be a fine place for a team to play here.

    Soccer is gay.

Charlotte can't even support an NBA team.

I don't know, the Eagles do ok attendance wise and there is a pretty strong interest in it at a youth league level. But I have doubts that a team here would be that well supported, and I think the MLS is looking to play the same stadium game that the other major leagues are playing so they wouldn't go for Memorial Stadium without a shit load of renovations.

Felix Sabates owned the old Charlotte Lightining 30 years ago (they won the league title back in 1981, if I remember correctly). He was the original backer for Raleigh's NHL Expansion bid before he dropped out in early 1996 (and before the Whalers announced their move later on that year). I wonder if he would be interested in the MLS ? ? ?

THE BOTTOM LINE: I say put the team in Raleigh-Durham . . I think there is a stadium in Cary that is a top rated soccer stadium (SAS ________ ? ? ?). I wonder how easy it would be to expand it to a MLS sized Stadium (20-30,000) ? ? I think the Triangle could easily support MLS. I don't think folks in Charlotte would be breaking down the doors to support it with NASCAR, NFL, & NBA already here.
