blaming him for the TE, I don't like. Blaming him for some other coverage gaffes, yeah. To me, a fair amount of his struggles were deep receivers. Blaming him for being one of the guys missing tackles? Sure. He did that, too.

It's kinda frustrating when the media still calls us a Cover 2 team. Fox has never really been a c2 guy, and JDR didn't run but about half a year's worth of C2. By the second half of 02, we were playing a lot more cover 3, with more cushion on receivers.

Smitty, Carter, Colin Branch supposedly clocked sub-4.4 times. Minter really isn't in the top five. And he's not been in position as much this year, IMO.

But he and Rucker both seem to be getting a lot of crap right now. 9 other guys on that defense aren't making plays, but Rucker and Minter are supposedly more concerning?

I'd like to see Minter - just once - actually wrap somebody up - all he ever does is lay a shoulder into them - thats okay to make that hit from time to time but thats all he's got anymore

theirs are the most obvious. I can't say I like Peppers chasing down recievers in coverage much either. He should be on the QB's ass instead. The LB's are not getting to the QB enough to justify it IMHO.

I don't believe theirs are obvious compared to anything. Williams missed coverages and tackles, Rucker had a sack against a very good tackle, a tackle a lot better than Columbo. Minter did get out of position a number of times. Honestly, I believe the stigma of age suggests their mistakes are somehow worse than others'.

The article tells me alot about Minter. If he was actually a team leader he would keep his mouth shut and accept the criticism. Instead, he is quick to point out that most of the mistakes were not his. This is almost finger pointing to me. Minter would be better served taking heat from the media, Fox and Co. knows who blew the coverage. I think it would have gained him a little respect in the locker room and certainly set a good example.

It tells me he has alot of pride in what he does. I dont have a problem with him stepping up and defending himself. Probably wont get much sympathy after that TEAM performance tho.

He's gonna have to back that talk up against TB too, so that can only be a good thing for this team.

But im not fooled into thinking Whitten going nuts (and alot of TE's we face) is all on the safeties. Gotta put blame on the co-ordinators and LB's too. Seems they're relying alot on Peppers too it seems. But i have to wonder if not having a quality TE to go up against in practice has something to do with it too.

And no. i dont beleive for a second he's top 5.

yeah, he could be quieter. I know for certain he's not a fan of criticism, he once contacted a guy from the Lair who was saying really uncomplimentary things about him.

And that he doesn't seem to have much to say about what wasn't a good performance, just defending his own abilities, is a little concerning.

i'm not sure saying that you only manned up on the TE once and that once you got burned for a TD is something i'd be bragging about. btw mike, it was a very easy pitch and catch, nothing extraordinary about it at all. you looked like shit on the play. jmho.
