Fucking awesome! I didn't go to that one, and that was probably the best year to go. I went in 93'. Primus headlined that year. They kicked serious ass.

That was the year with Alice in Chains, Dinosaur Jr, Fishbone & Front 242, right?

I liked all those bands, and knew it'd be the only chance I'd ever have to see 242, so that was pretty cool. Overall, the show wasnt as good though. They had it at the Metrolina Expo and it was just hot and dirty.

I did meet Lane Staley though. My friends and I were taking a breather left of stage away from the crowds, when this guy wandered out in a heavily faded black T, sunglasses & torn camo pants, walking his dog. Didnt even recognize him at first. He stood talking with us while we watched J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) play their set and we talked about the show. I dont think anyone else recognized him. He was very cool. So very laid back. Cant believe he's gone now.

I was at that show. I also saw Layne Staley walking his dog around and remember thinking to myself, "damn he's a short fucker." Primus kicked ass...Tool opened up the show and kicked ass...Rage Against the Machine kicked ass. Alice was cool. Fishbone was kickin'...but why the hell did they put Arrested Development on that set? They sucked hard. (Side note: Layne Staley was the only "celebrity" with my exact birthdate - 8/22/67. Now there's none.)

Another classic memory from that show...during Primus' set, some dude kept trying to body surf over my head for like 20 minutes. I finally had enough and when he came by again, I put both hands on him and literally slammed his ass down on the ground. He didn't try that shit again either.

Very cool that you said that. I was a bit of a fan before that, but really converted over after that show. They mixed their CDs much quieter than their live sets really were. Their albums still frequently find their way into my CD changer.

Yeah man. Tool and RATM were there too. Rage blew everyone away. Fishbone was great as well. Ahh hell, it was a great one.

man, I was there. you described it perfectly. as soon as it started I remember the bonfires and what looked like a tornado of dominoes boxes flying through the air. Ive been to shows indoors that werent that loud. fuck that was awesome. my buddy asked if I was gonna go the other night and I told him. "probably not, yada yada....and besides that, they will never top the show from that lollapalooza." thay were the best act I saw at any of those , including Janes addiction the first year.
