Yeah, this is all bluster, which points to a feeling of "we need to believe that we're fine without Chudzinski and that Shula will be good." I'm not reading a lot into these comments aside from it suggesting anxiety. It will be interesting to see in preseason what the offense looks like.

I also hate when people talk about how the offense "took off" just because we started using a little less shotgun. I especially hate it when Shula somehow gets credit for that.

Especially since it wasn't even true. The team still used a lot of read option and, and as I documented, the average yards per offensive play stayed exactly the same. The thing with Chud was important because it tells us a lot about how we view football. People like to think that they're all about success and wins and stats and whatever, but it isn't true for most. People want to be entertained. Chud's offense got old for them and they got frustrated with the amount of plays that failed regardless of how many went for big gains. It's similar to the way that people rejected Tim Tebow even though he was an effective quarterback.

Which, if you really think about it, makes perfect sense. You're a fan who at minimum invests the time to watch a team you've chosen, and quite possibly you've spent a lot of money as well. What do wins and losses really mean to you as a fan? You're not playing; you're watching. If there was a football equivalent of the four corners offense where you could win consistently but in the most ugly way possible, hardly any fans would be for that. It's not that fans don't care about wins and losses but rather that those things are far, far less important than being entertained.

You two assholes are forgetting how the offense took off once we started using a little less shotgun. I believe Shula should get credit for that.

The ironic thing is that if the team does run 500+ times then fans will be bitching about how unwatchable the offense is.

To an extent, yeah, but they also like variety. Unfortunately variety isn't all that feasible for NFL offenses.
