Agreed, I know people love that he spoke out and he is has always been a popular player among the fans. But for a HC that just got the job I thought it was over the top for his first week in charge, he looks like a Mora waiting to happen, too emotional in public, cooler heads are what is called for, like our own Foxy, dont show them anything. The press are gonna be waiting with baited breath for his next interview, and not for the right reasons.

yeah, I expressed some doubt before he even became a head coach about his abilities to be a head coach, because he didn't feel he was ready for a DC spot. Sure, in a way you don't have to be a coordinator to administrate a team, but it's good experience. I imagine after this is done he'll go be a DC for someone.

At any rate, while this might buy him some time he can't run his team this way. in reality I look at this stunt as interesting but could be about as effective as that staged retardery that Morhinweg pulled with his motorcycle. I'd feel better if he were at least not throwing a player under the bus - to a point it was a necessary move and to a point it could make veterans distrustful and rookies petrified.

I loved it when it happened but then the fact that he was doing public play by play on a situation between him and a player made me think he was making an error.

Has Singletary accomplished anything as an assistant? He coached the linebackers in Baltimore, which, to be honest, is probably about as difficult as spelling your own name. Then in SF, they've done anything extraordinary with the defense despite having some talented players.

He was a great player, but so was Matt Millen.

ps - Rooney Rule needs to go.

Yes. Got to get rid of the good PR and proggressive, voluntary stance that a group of old white millionaires thought of. Fucking commies.

Haz can still keep his job if he does well. It just means they have to interview someone that is a minority.

I just think the Rooney rule has done wonders for the image of the league. If you compare the minority coaches in Pro ball vs college ball, there is no question where the opportunities lie. Getting more minorities interviews, even if they are for positions they have no chance at, helps that.

I don't have a problem with the rule in general. It's the idea of one coach in the role can be signed, another coach in the role can't be signed that's unequal.

Also, most teams are skirting it already anyway. Hell, we skirted it.

Didn't we interview Lewis? And Dungy? Even offering him the job. I had thought so.

Do you mean coordinators? I was under the impression that the rule only applied to Head Coaches.

I understand that we have two coaches in the same situation, and they are not being treated the same. Just like when Green was hired in Zona, and Dungy in Indy, I don't think either of those orginizations interviewed other people. They had one guy in mind, got him, and didn't have to interview others because they guy they had was black.

Thing is, I don't care if they are treated the same. The point of the rule is not to treat all equally. Nobody gets treated equally in life. Ever. The guy in the office across from yours may get more face time with your boss because he likes golf and you don't. That's life.

The point of the rule is to increase opportunities and interview experience for minority coaches.
