I just thought it might be a good idea to put it up in here so people do not have to go look it up. I thought it might spark some talk on the subject. We all get caught up in who we pick in the first round but this might help us look past that. Not everyone on here is a draft junkie and knows all this stuff already.

Collin, please refrain from posting picture of Bill Maas. It's bad enough we had to listen to him all year, please allow me to forget and continue to hope that the NFL sees fit to assign him to ruin games for another teams fan base.

    Thanks in advance!

Mag's, no need to poo-poo the thread...it's a worthy topic even if he didn't actually spark the discussion. It's kind of cool to see who people like/dislike none the less.

Personally, Fasano or Tim Day would be OK with me based on thier respective projections. Fasano should be in our range in the second and Day in the thrid. However, I think it's the MO of this organization to try to throw shit against a wall and look at a day two pick and hope for a golden child.

Ehh. I'm just tired of the "hey, here's a topic, do the work for me" threads. That's all. I'm not looking to be a bitch about it, so I'll let it be.

I don't like Fasano in the 2nd, but it's a late 2, so maybe it works. I like Day around the 3rd, and he seems to be the type player we would want (unremarkable, solid, does everything good enough, not going to strike fear into anyone's heart).

[IMG][IMG]What do you say to the people who are obsessed with the team having a receiving tight end? Derek, Raleigh, NC I think what people might not understand is that there are five eligible receivers in the game. By virtue of the way we move people around, the tight end gets into one of the receiving spots sometimes, but his major job is as a blocker in pass protection. He still has to be effective for us in certain downs and distances and field positions, though. Our tight ends have been that way. When they have gotten down in the red zone, they have been much more effective. We don't feature one in particular, but our tight ends usually end up with about 45-50 catches between them. I think we do a pretty good job. We just don't have one who is going to catch 90 balls because we're not set up that way. There are teams in the League who have tight ends who catch that many, but if you look closely, you'll see they don't have a wide receiver who catches that many. If our tight end was the guy who was best suited to make big plays down the field, then we'd give it to him. Our best asset was Steve Smith last year, Muhsin Muhammad the year before, and Stephen Davis the year before that. We're going to give them the ball.

This might help aleviate some dreams people have of getting a Davis, Pope or Lewis. But we know we are willing to spend a 3rd rounder on the position. Im all for Fasano, he fits the value and type of player we like, ie, some blocking ability. But im a massive ND fan so im ever so slightly biased. Hell, i want Stovall, Quinn and Sharky next year too.

If we had Antonio Gates on this team last year we would have thrown him the ball alot and probalby won the superbowl. This team needs someone to take some of the load off Steve Smith. When he gets shut down so does our whole offense.

Thelt, that's what magnus means when he talks about being fixated on a position. It simply isn't true that TE was some glaring weakness last year or that adding one will reserve our spot in Miami. An upgrade would be nice, but there's no reason to focus on that position to the exclusion of all else.
