I called Microsoft and they said if I uninstalled Outlook on my laptop using the installation disk, I could reinstall it on my desktop. I uninstalled it on my laptop using the disk, but now it won't let me install it on my desktop. There is a red X beside it in the listing of programs to install.

Now Microsoft wants $35 to fix it. Grrrr .... Any ideas on how to get around this?

Also, if I do a restore on my laptop, will Outlook restore?

Not sure what you're doing exactly, but MSFT will charge to assist with a problem. You didn't NEED to uninstall it, but legally you can't run the same license on multiple PC's, so...

Anywho, if it's a real issue, which I'm sure it is, ping back and I'll get you the hookup :).

In the end, I paid them and the problem stemmed from the fact that i already had another version of Microsoft Office on that computer. They got the two programs patched together for me though and all is working well.

Thank you, Bootay, for pointing out that I didn't have to uninstall. I have reinstalled it now and feel much better for having a backup of my backup.

actually if I remember righ MS office is allowed to run on two machines, under the same license. At least that's what I was told by MS. That way the average user can have it on a desktop and laptop.

Correct, there is a desktop and laptop provision, but you have to be careful with that - you can't use both at the same time, and there are some other restrictions. It's better to just assume that one license goes on one PC...

Not sure but isn't it actually a work computer/home computer provision?

What are they going to do if you use both at the same time? I'm probably one of the few honest people I know who don't use full on pirated versions.

Only under a volume license. If your company has a volume license any Microsoft ware can be installed on a home based PC if its needed for work related purposes.
