Actually, I think they were happier seeing her quit, rather than seeing their "next Tiger Woods" posting two shitty scores at one of the easier courses on the PGA Tour. You have brought up a good point about Nike, because this whole novelty is starting to wear thin. She is still very good to have for marketing purposes, because the mystique of a teenage girl competing against PGA Tour men is still palpable, but I'll be interested to see what happens if she doesn't produce anything by this time next year. By then, she'll be 17-year-old Michelle Wie, which doesn't quite have the same innocent ring as 14-year-old Michelle Wie. If she continues to be nothing more than a side-show at bottom-feeding tour events, then Nike would probably be better off having her as a rival to Annika Sorenstam on the LPGA. I don't know the exact parameters of her contract, but I'm sure The Swoosh would start to force their hand in some fashion.
