he's obviously one of your favorites which means this is a useless arguement to me... I just pray for you that you never have to experience a loss due to drunk driving.

I couldn't care less about the guy, I would have the same thoughts about any other player. If you got a DUI I would't want you to loose your job either.

Don't think so. Maybe when Bates was the returner, but I don't remember.

Right. I don't think Hicks has a guaranteed spot though. Its doubtful that Bates could beat him out as a RB, but Smart might. I don't know how good Hicks is. He hasn't stuck anywhere.

They may take away a WR's spot. Hankton did get time at WR, but he was primarily a gunner. They have to provide for a ST's guy. You need 2 excellent gunners with backups. Sauerbrun kicks them long, but not high (often). They need to be flying down there and not getting blocked. I think they would make a spot for a gunner alone unless they found several among the position players.

Exactly. Bates doesn't really fit in any offensive category, he is just listed as a RB so they can list him as something other than just specialist.

This won't be a great help to his cause, because he's coming back from injury. But if he's healthy and can still play at a high level, then he can easily be #53. No reason to cut a good specialist just so an Anthony Bright can sit on the bench for 16 weeks.

If any way possible, I think they will try to keep Smart for ST. He is a great gunner, and along with Coop, should keep our coverage among the best in the league for quite a while. I think Bates is on the bubble because of his age, and because he has lost a step. I also think he lost the Richardson/fan favorite label when he got busted for the DUI, so if all things are equal, they will go with the younger man.
