you guys are right, drunk driver cases should be based on the "no harm, no foul" rule

not really, the laws are ridiculous. two drinks and you are legally impaired.

the problem drunk drivers are the ones who blow a .15 or above and get arrested for it repeatabley....ie, the alcoholics.

Your the one not getting the point.

I don't think that anyone is saying he shouldn't face the legal ramifications of what he did. He should.

He just shouldn't lose his job over it.

Cooper wasn't cut. Peter wasn't cut.

I don't know if I'd cut him. I'd strongly consider it. Smith was in fact cut because of a second violation, yes.

Either way, there's no way a world class athlete and former olympic sprinter would get drunk off two fucking glasses of wine. he went out, he got drunk, he drove home. He shouldn't have.
I won't sit there and be glassy eyed because it's Michael Bates. I won't pretend that he's half the player he was. If he can help this football team without it being a distraction, then I'd consider bringing him back, if he can't he's gone.

    And neither was Moose.

Although, if he gets busted for guns and pot again, he just might be, even despite the salary cap hit.

Just becuse somebody does something that can hypothetically kill someone it doesn't make them guilty of murder.

We wouldn't get some type of break from the NFL because he broke a substance abuse rule on his 2nd offense?

I'm not saying he should be tried for murder. That should be obvious. But just because there was no harm done (injury harm) doesn't mean it's okay.

Not only the DUI, but signing as a FA and missing the first year, then right after the first mini-camp, it just really sucks. What a way to start the sesaon. Certainly the message has been sent to the players to walk a tighter rope. So to fail the team and the fans in that regard, it's just a sign that he's not getting the full message, and if anybody on the team should, he should. Besides, he's run his mouth enough about other players on the team in the past, he can be held accountable.

Yea, Moose got in some trouble, but the gun thing was legal, he had a small amount of pot, but he wasn't stoned (or it hasn't come out if he was). Moose should have known better, I'm not going to make excuses for him though. Cooper, I'm not sure the timeline, but the circumstances surrounding the team are different now. Peter, that was before Fox, so they are different now too. It's all been building up, and it's time there's a zero tolerance for this type of thing. IMO, Bates is a good place to start.

I think if Bates gets off (team wise) it sends the wrong message to the rest of the players. If he's cut, then they'll have to cut the next guy too.

I wouldn't miss him if he left. If he stays and proves me wrong, so be it, but he's got a lot to prove.
