No. I remember Houston signed Carr and we still had to wait for about 12 minutes for them to announce it. We picked Pep pretty quickly thereafter if I remember correctly.

Yep. Makes it sound pretty absurd, doesn't it? :agreed:

Anyone else besides me wondering why the NFLPA continues to put up with this crap? It's not like rookies are the majority of their members.

It does increase the franchise value for veterans, and sets a new benchmark.

The franchise value for OT went up 800,000, and the precedent is now set for spending 30 million guaranteed for a tackle.

If that's true, then the union is way too weak. The tail isn't supposed to wag the dog.

I'm thinking that almost certainly would've happened anyway, the difference being that a rookie wouldn't be contributing to the top 5 salaries. They would all be vets, as they should be.

Why do they even allow the team that picks 1st to announce the pick before the draft. They hype the event up to no end and then they ruin what is arguably THE most dramatic moment, the #1 overall pick.

They really need to scrap that rule.

I think it would be great if next year all first round selections were made and signed 2 weeks before the draft :smiley2:
