    The Garcia Discs

    Source: 99% SBD

    Thanks to Ed Maier for this compilation:

    This is an 8 disc set of all Garcia. Mixed with much love using Vegas Pro 3.0. Selections are taken from The Grateful Dead, Reconstruction, Legion of Mary, JGB & Garcia/Grisman. A week straight of late nights went into this mix and a bit of red wine. Many tracks are continuous even though they are from different shows. Thanks to JBL for the inspiration. And above and beyond thanks to Garcia for showing us the way. This is for the people. Enjoy.

    I still have 9 more hours to go on the dl:lalala:

    The quote below is what made me invest the time in it.....

    I downloaded this stuff and lemme tell ya'll - this is the best Garcia / Dead compiliation ever. Here's why: its a given the sound quality is top notch on each track, but what makes this so special is that from one song to the next has completely balanced tonal and volume characteristics, despite being from disparate time periods.....I'm not sure how all this was done but this shit is unreal.

    neat

    fwiw, meat hates soundboard.
    I dig it, since most people can't tape and you always get set up next to that cockchugger who wants to sing along loudly to everything, but I can appreciate a good AUD (and his are).

    doing the levels isn't that hard. Anyone can take cakewalk or one of those programs and level everything the same. Still a lot of work, though. And too easy to fuck up with a lot of compression.

    Thanks Mags. I am quite the novice at the terminology or even the basics of the technology to get this stuff. I basically just know to point, dl and listen :)
    I have some music that is absolutely ruined by the crowd and others that the crowd actually add to..... I figure it's rare to find a set of live music that you can tolerate every minute of, yet you'll sometimes find a jewel amongst the stones.

    I just wanted to share it, this stuff isn't coming back ever.

    SBD = soundboard, add an A and it's analog (tape) D is digital
    AUD = audience.
    matrix is generally a mix of the two (or more if there's a FM distribution captured for hearing impaired, or an inner ear monitor captured)

    There's generally gibberish in there about mics were positioned, how it was recorded, mixed, etc that doesn't matter, but usually all of this is in the sourcefile or on the etree site.

    awesome link. If I have any space left out of 320 gigs I'll D/L it.
