McDermott Talks 3-4 D

    Some 3-4 D in Carolina?

    Panthers ponder 3-4 possibilities

    They better get some beef in the middle if they want to go that route on occasion. Both Harvey and Johnson move inside from time to time, but for an effective 3-4 look an oak stump in the middle will be required.

    I haven't counted plays or anything, but we already play quite a bit of 34. I like it better situationally though. We don't have personnel to do it full time.

    One of the beat writers did a breakdown last week and we did, in fact, run it from time to time this past year. I don't remember the number, but it was the lowest percentage of plays run.

    Mike Clay of Pro Football Focus, and Rotoworld contributor, said the Panthers ran zero base 3-4 snaps in 2012, playing 39 snaps in the 3-3-5 nickel defense.

    Agreed....must have Johnson inside for an effective 3-4
