HP, they're the Raiders - they have ALWAYS been nasty, ever since I was a kid.

Didn't Jack Tatum have a book titled "They call me Assassin"?

Did George Atkinson paralyze Darryl Stingley?

I think that would have been too much for Gruden to change, even if he wanted to do so.

true, the Raiders have always been nasty, but now the Bucs are the east coast Raiders. Gruden is the coach, and he controls the team, is my point. He knew what was going on and didn't stop it. I think the look of disbelief in the second half was him not believing that they were losing!!!!
November 9. Damn. November 9. Damn. I'll be there even without a ticket, I'll stand outside and yell and stuff.

New England Patriots wide receiver Darryl Stingley was paralyzed by Jack Tatum in a preseason game in 1978 against Oakland. I remember seeing the highlights of that hit when it happened (was a little kid).

    Joker?

Yep. It was a fight. And like Baldinger said, Walker was getting whipped. He wasn't going to give up a sack, but paid for it.

Walker had a 15 yard facemask in the second quarter.
Then holding, ten more. And another.
The second play was a 12 yarder, adding another 12 to the 35 he cost them. That's without waived off penalties, the pushing match where Walker took a jab at peppers, the chop on McCardell where Walker was blocking him.

Agree. I believe McCardell when he says he thought Pittman was not engaged. He, as opposed to the rest, has no pattern of dirty play that I know of. But I could be wrong. Clearly there is a team wide pattern in this game. It could have been, "you guys get those guys STOPPED."

OTOH, maybe I don't beleive him. Its just that that particular player has a clean rep as far as I know.

I hope this is resolved by the officials, not by illegal retaliation. If we weren't committing as many penalties as they were, it would be easier for the refs to keep calling them on them and not get fatigued. Its hard for the refs to make it a 5 hour game.

Are we going to make tackling below the waist illegal too? There are more injuries there (I think) than on the blocks.

It really would be difficult to block anyone with this rule. Its a hard thing to balance relative safety and keeping football some way like it is.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one, L. I see your point, but I still think incident for incident, cut blocking results in a lot more serious injuries. I'd love to see the stats, though.

Agreed, but the only difficulty I see would be for undersized "David vs. Goliath" matchups -- backs and WR's picking up blitzing DE's. An average FB should be able to go man to man against a linebacker, and a HB should be able to handle a blitzing corner with no problem. Outlawing the dark art of cut blocking would definitely change the game, but I don't think it would ruin it.

Did anyone else notice on DeShaun's first run a Buc wouldn't let go of his foot and stood up twisting his foot? I don't know if it was the acl leg or not, but it seemed on that play and maybe one other, DeSahun's legs were held & twisted in a manner well beyond simply tackling.
