I already miss seeing him in the huddle down here in AR... and the new season hasn't even started yet.

Gil Brandt is far from a media hack. He strikes me as a knowledgable commentator. He certainly knows the busiess well from his time in the scouting and player personel.

Drafting Jones before the third round is a HUGE reach, IMO. Hell, even taking him in the third might be a slight reach. Sure he's shown alot in a short amount of time, but it's not like he's caught 100 balls in his college career. He's a developmental prospect with big upside and that's a fact.
It might not be popular, but it's the truff.

Gates was a UFA, but yes similar type of raw. Except Jones has extensive football experience.

I don't get the magnitude of interest for this guy. He wasn't terribly notatable as a QB and everyone expects him to be a bigtime TE or receiver just because he's tall and fast. Drafting this guy is a gamble IMO.

imo, matt would be a much, much better pass catching TE right outa the gate than anyone we have on the roster. and will develop quickly into an elite TE ... if he works at it.

i saw the catch he made in the senior bowl -- i think it was in practice -- where he angled around the CB, outjumped him and snatched the ball away. it was a hell of a catch, even for a polished receiver.

i think he could be a red-zone weapon. he's huge and fast. with the new rules, he could absolutely blow past some of these CBs and there'd be no way they could outreach him.

hell, even if he only works on two plays, stick him in at the red zone and he could be a 15-yard TD specialist.

and that's just for starters, really. that's tangible, points-on-the-board stuff.

he's huge, fast, knows football and -- in a pinch -- could be the guy who could hold for kicks, play emergency QB, etc.

Must've been in practice. In the game, he dropped 3 of the 4 balls thrown to him.

This much I agree with. Even largely unproven, he's just a good guy to have on the roster, IMO.

I was speaking in general and not specifically about Brandt, agreed Brant is maybe one of the better talent evaluator's
