Q: What teams you talk to?

A: Yesterday, I talked to Jacksonville, to Dallas, to Carolina, to Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Seattle.

    (they talk to everyone)

Don't get me wrong, it's interesting. But as often, it's these guys' agents pimping a team's interest when there's not necessarily interest.

yea i know, i guess though i doubt they talk to players they know that they are flat not interested in. it was Matt saying that he talked with the Panthers ... and he didn't say he talked with 30 some odd teams. i know it don't mean squat but it still gets me excited to hear that they talked him. I can let my fantasies start rolling in high gear now

agreed, they talk to everyone. Likewise though every team talks to every prospect, I like to read this coming from a player because it shows we stuck out in his mind.

when Gil Brant say's the Panthers talked to Johnny Huxtable of Bumfuk state. I discount it, thats just an observation a media hack is making because he knew both faces. (does that make sence?)

We talked to him, all that really means is we have some notes on him. Which is more than some folks have. Doesn't mean he is a prticular target, just means he's a guy we might look at if he is there when our pick comes around later in the draft.
People are enamoured with him right now because of his athletic ability, but truth be told he's a raw prospect. So raw that he has never played the position he will likely play in the pro's (TE or WR). We're seeing him in the third round mostly, but if he's still floating around in the late third or fourth when the Panthers pick...he becomes an option.

i don't see him lasting to the fourth. doubtful the third and would thought i'd died and gone to heaven if he was and we picked him. the guy looked great at the SB in what, really his first game ever at WR and with a couple days practice. there are some scouts out there drooling over his measurables and thinking what a monster this guy can become monster at TE with some good coaching and reps in a very short order. he seems to have a great attitude about making a switch. the question seems to be that he's soooo laid back and they wonder how hard he will work at the switch. maybe everything has always come so easy for him that he hasn't had to show a great work ethic and so now that is coming into question.

thanks WP. that does make some sense. i guess it still doesn't mean a lot but hey when you're praying any glimmer of light is better than none at all. the player may have struck up a short conversation with a panther scout and trying to hype or fool himself by saying so and so is interested in me. but it my mean that the player thought certain teams in particular showed more than casual interest and just going through the routine. Matt strikes me as the latter type of player ... but that may be wishful thinking.

Yeah, that makes sense - and coming from the player, it does help. Sure beats the first few years when we'd draft guys and they'd just heard that we had a franchise after the pick.

Generally, teams schedule 'x' number of interviews, they don't necessarily get to interview everyone, but they tend to run their tests on everybody. To have a coach or scout talk to 200 or so players would be a tall task, yeah. But they have chances at pro days, individual workouts, all-star games to ask what they need.

Have we given up on Drew Carter. We've got a fast one there if he heals. Anyone heard anything?? Wouldn't it be the shits if that lanky fucker showed up this year??
