From Yasinskas, reporting on Saturday practice:

That's changing starters at three positions to cover one. More than that though, it's an indicator that if they have to move someone up on the interior, they'll promote Kalil and slide Hartwig to guard.

which I like. The Kalil part, if he's ready. Not the part with moving a ton of people around, though in practice that's not going to be detrimental. Personally I wish Hartwig was at guard anyway.

I don't consider what they do the first days of camp when starters are being eased back from injury to mean much. You could almost say it's more about checking out the other guards when they move Wahle to LT.

kinda, though if it was just about checking out other guards, they could've moved Kalil out, or just put in the supposed #2, Hangartner.

That's practice, chief. If they're still doing it at the end of training camp, that would be significant, right now it's just trying different guys at different positions to see what their capabilities are and how they best fit together. I agreed with magnus since the draft that Hartwig at RG and Kalil at C would be the preferred lineup, but if they settle on Hartwig at center than you won't see him moving just for the suspension. You don't screw with the snap, for one thing.

Moreover, you didn't get the point. There are levels of important among offensive line positions; they aren't just all equal. Left tackle (for a RH QB) and center are considered the most important. When those positions are exposed, you sometimes see teams juggle the lineup to cover them. But I cannot recall any team ever moving its starting center to cover a guard position. It would be much more likely that they'd just play Kalil or one of the other backups at guard during Bridges' suspension.

I think the point about moving Hartiwig to G, if it happens, is that it would be because they want him there permanently, or if Kahil beats him out and he's a backup. I agree with Collin there's no way they move him for 2 games if he's intended to be the starting C for the season.

Right now they're trying to find their 5 best OL, looking at people in different places. Once they decide who the 5 best are, they'll get positions.

I'm kinda glad they're swtiching up; with the switch to zone blocking this year, I damn sure want the best 5 out there, whoever that may be...

I just look forward to running the ball down the opponents throat and then setting up Smith, Jarrett and a TE for scores
