I would think Martz got an ear full from Fox after they shared an office when he quit a Raiders job...I don't think Davis has changed any....

hmmm...just wondering if Henning retired if Martz would OC for Fox?

I think Harrington is talented. If not, its his personality holding him back. But I still think good coaching could help him alot.

Wouldn't surprise me if he did. Rathman seems like a Marinelli kind of coach.

    clayton's blog:

Mike Martz is wrapping up a multi-year contract with the Lions to be their offensive coordinator.

The job was offered on Wednesday and Martz told his agent to work out a deal. The former Rams coach hit it off immediately during his Tuesday interview with head coach Rod Marinelli. Martz may be asked to break down quarterback Joey Harrington and try to build him back up as a starting quarterback. That may be hard to do because Harrington probably has lost his team for leadership. If management feels as though Harrington can no longer be the leader, the organization will have to go out and get another quarterback.

Marinelli is giving Martz a lot of authority with the offense. With him, Martz is bringing three coaches from the Rams -- John Ramsdell for quarterbacks, Wilbert Montgomery for running backs and Pat Carter for tight ends. It's a smart move because Marinelli can concentrate on the defense while Martz works on the offense. That should make a good team. One of the things Marinelli liked about Mike Martz' offense is how he constructs his running attack. Martz is known to run more of a pass-oriented offense, but Marinelli studied and liked many of his running concepts. Marinelli wants power running. He likes the way Martz' "two-back lead" plays. Martz is big into motion and he can motion into power running formations.

Lions | Martz deal not yet complete?
    Thu, 2 Feb 2006 10:21:19 -0800

Updating ongoing reports, Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Detroit Lions officials feel there is less than a 50-50 chance the team will be able to work out a deal with former St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz for their offensive coordinator position. If a deal is able to be completed, it is believed it will be closer to $1 million per year compensation than the $2 million per year previously reported.

1.2 mil/year for 3 years per Scott Fowler (the lions ‘insider’ reporter) on the Huge show (Detroit sports radio) that I’m listening to via internet…probably announced tomorrow. his agent is feeding a lot of BS to the media.

weird..espn and several detroit tv station ran with it being official last night and this morning...it is official, then it's not, then it is, then it is not.

Lions | Martz will not take job
    Thu, 2 Feb 2006 13:11:06 -0800

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports former NFL coach Mike Martz will not take the job as the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator. "We couldn't come to an agreement on terms," said Martz, who reportedly accepted the job. "I really do feel bad... but we just couldn't get on the same page." Martz said he plans to return to his hometown of San Diego and will sit out the 2006 football season.

Sorry, Boo. I think what he was asking for was reasonable, and they should have paid him. Martz has taken QBs with lesser personalities than Harrington, less talent, etc., and made them good, for at least a while. This may cost them Harrington too (of course, they may have counted him gone anyway). Martz did call a finesse game, but he wouldnt have to. He had wonderful running plays. That's what Marennelli liked about him. The beautiful misdirection.
