When he catches the ball, it seems like the play is just starting.

Whatever the debate about speed, most sites seem to agree that Clayton is tougher and more elusive than Williamson.

I don't have a major problem with Clayton. If he's drafted I won't be pissed. I just like Williamson more. He's got way more upside, and looks to "fit" (I'll pay Magnus his royalties for the use of the word) here better. He teamed with Colbert, Smith, and taught by Proehl has a TON of upside to it.

I asked the question before, and I'm sincerely interested in hearing anyone give an answer, but when I asked where Williamson's huge "potential" advantage over Clayton is, no one could give me an explanation. Can you? As mentioned in that other thread, if Clayton is as fast as Williamson (and electronic times seem to confirm this), Clayton plays tougher than Williamson, he's more elusive than Williamson, and he has far better receiving skills than Williamson, where is Troy eventually going to get that huge advantage so many people seem to assume he will have someday? The only thing I could come up with was if Williamson somehow made better use of his height advantage, but he'd also have to pull equal with Clayton in some of those other areas and that still doesn't seem like it would constitute "way more upside."

And as for fit, I disagree. Magnus is a great football mind, but because of that I think a lot of people just take his opinion as truth. Did you and the other Williamson fans honestly come to the conclusion that he would be a better fit before Mags said so? While we do throw deep more often than a lot of fans realize, I'm not sure we have the arm strength at quarterback or the gameplan to fully take advantage of someone who is far more vertical than horizontal. Based on the routes we run predominantly, I think Clayton is a much better fit.

If you said "need" instead of "fit," I could understand that since we don't have anyone quite like Williamson, although Smith had plenty of deep speed and ability pre-injury, but if that's the case then our biggest need by far at WR is size. Williamson is taller than Clayton, but has just average height overall and doesn't play very big. So really a better "fit" and "need" would be someone like Moose, but unfortunately there's no ready-made WR prospect fitting that mold who is worth drafting in the first or even second round. Jones might be one day (that and the fear that Philly will draft him are the reasons I've grown to like him in the last 48 hours), but this just isn't a good WR crop for what we actually need.
