semantics. We are deep, and IMO Gettis isn't a one route receiver (we barely went to the deep ball anyway). He and LaFell were used essentially interchangeably, and that pair will probably be on the field in 3 WR personnel unless they have specific issues with Smith in the slot (where he spent most of his 3WR time last year, and consistent with how the league in general would use him).

On the other hand, if they sell high on Gettis, the only one of our four that has more value than we put in, I'm great with that. Go get a corner with him and buy a vet WR, then the numbers make more sense .

There are a lot of wideouts on the roster, and the team has invested so many draft picks that I agree you're right about it being unlikely that they bring someone in, but no one outside of Smith is an established wideout. I'm less concerned about that with Shockey & Olsen on board, though.

It's really all he's good at. For instance, against New Orleans he had one catch for 22 and one for 0. Same against Atlanta, actually. Then against Arizona he had one for 29, then another for 4, and another for -1. He has great speed, but is slow in and out of cuts, so he probably won't ever be more than a deep threat. Again, that's useful to an offense, I just don't want people expecting him to become a Pro Bowler some day.

    OK.

    Dear TBR,

Please don't expect a player some of us think can run more than one route to be a Pro Bowler.

    Thanks,

Please let us know if there are any other things we're not allowed to think that no one's arguing.

it seems as if, had I said the words Pro Bowl, you'd have taken a few thousand words about how I'm exaggerating and blow things out of proportion and blahblahblah. You'd have said that no one said the words Pro Bowl and that I was being irrational. The magnitude of the hissy would've been seismic.

So other than that, I'm going to not worry about Gettis being in the Pro Bowl but feel like he can run more than one route and that he has a good chance of starting if we don't buy anyone.

figured I'd go check since I'm wily of "here's what happened in three games" - his long in 15 games he caught passes in are as follows: 14, 14, 21, 13, 39, 22, 18, 88, 11,22, 29, 5, 13. Looking at his splits, he had one 40+ reception, another 30+, and 5 more for a total of 8 20+ out of 37 receptions. His longs in presesaon were 11, 14, 19, 9. If he's only a longball guy, he certainly wasn't using it, and those must've been some funky ass deep routes to go for nine yards. The 40+ was St Pierre and Clausen only had like 16 20+ all year. We didn't throw deep much at all.

One of those 20+ was when behind by more than a full score so it wasn't as if there was a skew for being behind.
