how is it stupid to rename folders on a computer? how is it stupid to want to organize your programs into directories instead of having a bazillion files all in the same folder?

pc's operate best when you just answer "yes" to every question. as soon as you start saying "no" or looking into options, things seem to get messed up -- unless you're a windows guru.

i f'd up my machine (trying to install os x on it) and had to do a fresh install. with a fresh install, my machine booted up a ton faster even tho i've installed pretty much the same stuff i had on it before, only it got there without having to install/un-install/upgrade programs and drivers.

You can install software wherever the hell you want to under the Program Files directory or outside of it.

Pretty damn stupid when your applications are looking for files on that path.

so you're telling me a computer is unable to account for somebody moving a file? isn't that sort of what computers are really good at?

sometimes i'll install stuff that doesn't ask where it should go. i'm not allowed to move it. or perhaps i misspelled "utilities" (all the "iliti" can be hard to proof-read). i have to uninstall and re-install in order to move something in windows.

on the mac, you just move it. you want to reorganize your apps cuz there are just too many? re-organize away. it isn't going to complain.

it seems a bit odd to think that a computer would have a hard time locating a file you told it to move to another location.

windows and osx each have their foibles, but i don't see how anybody could think that something as basic as organizing your hard drive should be as difficult as windows makes it when it's clearly possible to make it easier.

Applications in Windows are more than just a single file. You can argue that the Mac does make it easier to move the application after installation but to say you can't simply move a file on Windows isn't being honest. If you install your software in Program Files I don't see why you would want to move them somewhere else. It makes it easier if you just go buy the accepted convention.
