The other thing I noticed is his name isn't really Sawyer. Sawyer was the name of the guy that killed his parents. Why would you go by that name for 3 years?

 

You're just now noticing his name isn't really Sawyer? His real name is James Ford, we found that out pretty early on. No, the guy that killed his parents (or caused their death, he didn't actually murder them) just USED the name Tom Sawyer in the con he used to steal his mother's money and from that indirectly caused his father to commit murder/suicide. His real name was Cooper - or his last name, I forgot his first name. Anyway, he (James Ford aka Sawyer) took the name Sawyer as kind of a personal vendetta thing, to make his life about finding the guy and killing him. It's the same guy who tricked Locke into giving him his kidney, and then pushed him out of the hotel window causing him to be crippled for life. That was when Locke found out about his con to marry that kid's mother (forgot his name) for her money. Locke threatened to expose him, and he pushed him out of the hotel window. Sawyer actually already killed the guy a couple of seasons ago on the island, of course if we're dealing with some kind of time warp or alternate universe, I guess he could theoretically still be alive in one of them. Weird stuff.

 

Actually thanks for that rundown. Sorry some of that backstory stuff I'm missing out on. I may go back and rent some of the earlier seasons to catch up better.

 

i doubt locke killed em. my sense is that he's stuck on the main island, but i dunno.

 

that guy was locke's father. in the sideways world, he's still alive. in fact, he must have conned locke into giving him his kidney since that was what lead to locke being paralyzed.

in the "real" version, sawyer was set up to kill somebody who wasn't cooper in australia. not sure if that was the same lead he got that brought him there as a cop. not that it really matters.


i've determined that the sideways version isn't meant to be taken literally. i think it's just serving the same purpose as flashbacks and flash forwards -- that is, to shed insight into the character in a way that's not revealed in the normal course of the "real time" story. the circumstances aren't necessarily important, it's what the person does in those circumstances that sheds light on their true character (which is presumably who they are even in the real world).

 

I thought the guy (Cooper) just conned Locke into believing he was his father and that was how he conned him into giving him the kidney - is that not right? I know for a fact he conned him into giving it to him, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't his "real" father, because seems like I remember him telling Locke "You needed a father figure, I needed a kidney". Am I remembering that wrong? Probably not gonna matter much in the end, but that's how I remember it. Are you saying the guy Sawyer killed was NOT Cooper?? Unless I missed something, it was the same guy who conned Locke that he killed, and Locke got him to do it because he (Locke) didn't have the stomach for it.

 

Maybe fLocke infected them, Widmore figured they were useless, and had them killed? Wonder why they didn't bury them though. Heck, for all I know, Widmore and fLocke on on the same side.

BTW, Jacob beat the crap out of Ricardo but let Ben kill him? WTH?
