    Hey folks,

For a project I'm doing, I need to know who your favorite LOCAL TV/radio sportscaster is.

By sportscaster, I mean guys (and gals) who read the news, do the reporting. NOT THE PLAY BY PLAY FOLKS or talk show egos.

Chuck Howard? Harold Johnson? Delano? Kricket? Ari? Bruce Snyder? SOLARTE!?

Almost as important, I need to know why.

    You have until Sunday evening.

I vote for Solarte, and here is why. Forunately, I know most of these dudes, and most of them work hard. But Solarte isn't skeered to shoot and get dirty when he needs to, and he genuinely gets pissed if stuff he's associated with looks bad. Oh, Solarte also has a nice ass.

Howard - Generally a good guy, and cares about his on-air product, but I've never seen him pick up a camera.

Delano - He's an okay dude, I reckon he works hard, but I think the only thing he's commited to is high school football. Their NASCAR coverage sucks worse than the Cubs.

    Harold Johnson -

Ari - I met him once, he didn't seem to need to introduce himself before he asked for a beer out of my cooler.

You guys are a little hard on Harold Johnson.

He's alright, but I think his station is not as committed to sports as the others. I like Solarte the best by the way, simply because he is not one of the pretty boys. He's a sports fan and one of us. No just a pretty face.

As one of the people who works in the sports department at WSOC, I must take issue with your statement that we aren't as committed to sports as the other stations.

Yes we get 15 to 30 seconds less time during our daily sportscasts than the other stations in the market, due to the "antics" of Harold. But we usually get on the same stuff the other guys do in that less amount of time. And we do a lot more special coverage than the other stations do.

In the month of May alone, we're doing 15 minute shows every night of the Wachovia Championship. We also are doing two fifteen minute and a thirty minute show during race weeks. Next month we're doing a show on the Bobcats draft. We'll be doing prime time specials for both games the Panthers are playing in prime time next season. And I would like to point out that while everyone and their uncle jumped on the Panthers bandwagon this year, we were the only station travelling with the team on the road the three years before this past one. We also do a high school football show that on average shows three more games a week than any other station in the market.

You can say that Harold is a clown, a lot of people do. But it's simply not accurate to say that we aren't as committed to sports as the other stations in Charlotte.

So why does he need that "Big Guy" persona then? I remember when he got the Eric Montross haircut. Either lost a bet or as a publicity stunt. Either way he is a John Boy and Billy type of media figure. Much the same reason I don't waste my time with the crap WFNZ is putting out. Homer Sports from Homer personalities. No thanks
