per Clayton, 3.6 mil is carry over from last year to drop it to 11.8 million.

Brockers was 14th last year, 4 years/9.4 mil (5.36 mil bonus). His cap hit for the year was $1.71 million. Robert Quinn was same (5.3 mil bonus) in 2011. So our 14 pick will probably cost $1.72 mil, give or take.

TO make it roughly even, remaining rookies will have a base of $400k (it was $390k last year). Last year's 47, Lance Kendricks, got $1.57 mil to sign (/4=.39, cap hit is roughly 800k). 107 got $400k (so roughly $500k total). Couldn't find anything on 140 (Gabe Miller) for a SB, but Richard Sherman got $182k (so 45k/yr, $435k). Let's estimate two other rookies at $425k ea, which gets me to $4.285 million.

You don't have to drop that immediately. Not until you sign them (generally August, but if it matters, the Giants had theirs all signed in May for rookie camp).

might be worth noting that spotrac also has Dwan Edwards' salary crossed out for 2013, and now has him UFA. I assumed, as waived, we picked up his contract.

No, it's a lot harder to restructure most of the names on that list because their contracts were recently signed and already feature a ton of bonus money with low base salaries in early years.

here's what I mean, though. They have "2010 Signing bonus" as $10 million. And they have it prorated 2009-2013. Should be 2010-14.

The guys I listed have very high salaries (in some cases, also very high bonus pro-ration). They are all possible restructures.

JOhnson - $6.75 mill - could restructure and save 3.75 million
gross - $8.75 mill - could restructure and save 5 million
beason - could save 3 million
    kalil could save 2 million
    williams 2.5 million
    stewart - cannot save
    smitty - about $1 million
    davis - cannot save
    godfrey cannot save
olsen can save just under 2 million
    gamble can save 3.5 million

I'm not saying any of these are smart, some moreso than others, but all possible.

Cost is $1.3 million, 2014's proration is $333k, so just under a million to cut. He's in year 2 of 3.

I'd definitely prefer an upgrade at safety. Might not be hard to find, but if we're dropping Gamble, then our top corner is Josh Thomas/Josh Norman and that's not going to get it. So money put into safety would end up at corner.

It's right at a million. $300k of his base for next year is guaranteed for injury...and with him ending the year on IR, it would be hard to cut him without paying that. Total cap for next year is $1.633 million without cutting him. And as for the original question, no one would want to give up anything for him.
