What I meant was that I don't see White being equivalent in either talent or production with the above average running backs in the NFL. At best he could be a Rudi Johnson, which obviously isn't bad, but I just can't imagine that he would even be considered for the first round if he hadn't attended USC.

I think we need a big bruiser at running back. Davis is done and Shelton has not shown much.

Check out the bio on the Steelers Willie Parker. Hardly played at UNC, not drafted, signed as a free agent. Over 1200 yards as a starter. Boy did our scouts miss out on this one. So sometimes it's the missed players that produce the most and have less baggage. Also see Fred Lane before he got his head screwed up.

As did the scouts of 30 other teams if you look at it like that. He might not do shit here or anywhere else, who knows.

What were Whites personal issues earlier on? With Shelton hopefully contributing next year don't White and Shelton have similar styles?

Shelton and White are both big backs, but White actually lays a shoulder and runs well inside. Shelton, at this point, seems to be a seam runner and wants to run like Foster. If you want a hopeful comparison, TJ Duckett, though Duckett never became the rock-solid interior runner he was billed as either.

White's really the only sizeable back in this draft. There really isn't much else over 220.

But, regardless, it depends first on Foster. Unless they do decide to pull the "Goings is a fullback" situation yet again next year, if Foster stays there's not much room for a back - Foster, Shelton, Goings; if Foster goes, it's probably as likely that we find a suitable veteran to split time. But if we decided to get a blue chip runner, I'm fine with that.
