0552 this morning I woke to water doing a steady drop out of the window sill next to our bed soaking the carpet. It was also coming down the blinds. The storm window was secure. I went outside and it was completely dry under the shingles. I took off the blinds and water was literally coming out of the top of the wooden window frame. It would beed up in several different places and drop down. WTF?

You have a place where water is seeping in. Commonly referred to as a "leak".

    Could

be coming in from just behind or below the gutter. To be sure. First clean gutters. Make sure they are secured. Remove drywall around window, remove any insulation. Go outside use a water hose and spray the roof (get a good gutter flow) Make sure to try to copy steady rain. Spraying at window is not helpful. Check for leaks. Note where water enters. This is a cause of many leaks. Check for gaps or cracks around vent pipes. Just remember water will travel till it is held up.

also, if you're able to get that far back in your attic, you may see where it is entering. it could be a vent pipe leak, like platedad said, and running down the roof framing. if the hose thing dont work, wait til the next rain and climb into the attic.

    how old is the house?

    House built in early 80's.
I climbed up there when it was pouring but made the mistake of only shining the flashlight over to the eave on top of where the bedroom window is insteadof looking for a leak elsewhere. I'll be up there again Friday night. Yeah, that mold thing is what worries me.

You may get some mildew. that is why it is important to remove drywall & insulation. Do not freak like most. there are test kits at Lowes & Home Depot that can tell you if it the bad stuff. If it is a small area a good wash down with soap & water and a good dry out. Should be fine. Oh forgot check the case molding around the outside of the window. If soft replace.
