But yea, hardware error, is what I meant by "grab bag" parts. That's one of the reasons I think Apple computers are so stable. They use good parts. It might be an IBM hard drive, an Adeptec SCSI card, Kingston RAM, etc., but they all say Apple when it's said and done.:xyzthumbs

I have an IBM thinkpad and really like it. Very quick and dependable, although I don't think they come quite as cheaply as some of the Dells.

I have been doing the same thing Larry, I have checked parts, specs, pricing, support and then with friends who have laptops and I mean ones that have bought theirs in the past year since thats what you would guy today new.

Dell is number 1 overall from what I have been able to gather, they have been there for a long time, still there but not by as much as in the past.

Gateway is number 2 and have actually closed the gap a lot, they are really competitive on parts quality now and specs. Their lastest models do seem to rock. Also the thing I like about Gateway is if you happen to have a local store for support.

After this imo from what I have found out.....just not worth it.

well, after researching it, i talked my mom out of it. it'd just be the novelty of ownership. there's no real need to go portable for her.

Microns are pretty good stable machines, if you don't mind overpaying.

They will price match Dell and Gateway. Last year at this time when Dell was trying to price everyone out of business, Micron was very high and got new ownership. I pointed this out to my sales guy and he match their specs and prices for me.

Ugh... my head spins when i look at this stuff...

I read some stuff that says dell sucks then i read other stuff that says they're the best, then other stuff that says micron is good, but then other stuff that says they suck...etc...

man...
