I didn't remember drug use being part of it. Hell, I don't know anything about him personally but there's no way to not be around drinking. It's whether or not he can handle that, I have no idea which is the case.

I can handle a little baggage in a player if he seems to have it put behind him. No one is perfect and most NFL guys have a few skeletons in the closet. My main concern would be the financial side of it. I would not want to give him big money or a long term deal until he proves himself. If he were willing to sign a one year deal for low dollars with the promise of getting extended for more money if he performs well and stays clean then I would be all for it. I really like the idea of adding a veteran receiver to our mix. Another rookie would not help much IMHO. Proehl is probably gone and even if he is not he has reached the point to where he can not help us that much anymore. A veteran to stablize the position to go along with our young guys would be great. I think having Cedric Wilson helped the Steelers a lot.

I don't know how creative you can be with contracts between agents and the players association etc, but with any "troubled but redeemed" player, I'd write in all sorts of out clauses for the team. A troubled player who really wants to prove something to the league shouldn't be opposed to that especially if it's his only way back into the league. Sign a one year deal, walk a straight line and improve your value - team has built in outs to protect themselves.

We sure could have used him this year. A guy like him, if he has his head on straight, could really flourish here with Smitty taking up all the double teams.

I would be surprised if he can not play WR better than Colbert and Carter too.
