Its been awhile since I ventured in Uptown Charlotte for a day to just piddle around, so I went Uptown to check out the NASCAR Hall of Fame, future Knights Uptown Ballpark site, etc. . .

I had a little time this afternoon to head out to the Carolinas Aviation Museum by the Airport to check out the ever growing collection of military & commercial aircraft. Of course, the prize of the collection is the Miracle of the Hudson plane (US Airways Flight 1549) which amazed me that they were able to get into the hanger (from the tip of the tail to the roof is 2-3 foot max). I’m sure the museum will see lots of visitors during DNC2012 Weekend with all the VIPs coming thru the QC . . .

2012 Democratic National Convention-Day 1

In what is easily the biggest event ever to hit the QC (and probably the Carolinas) the Democratic National Convention roared into town, bringing thousands of delegates, politicos, media talking heads, and celebrities to town. Traffic jams popped up everywhere and parties broke out all over the area . . .

In lieu of a tradiational opening night at convention venue (Time Warner Cable Arena) the party decided to host a street festival (CarolinaFest) in Uptown Charlotte on Day 1; Over 30k folks braved rainy weather to check out the vendors & exhibits and hear from politicans & various musical acts. I ventured Uptown on Monday afternoon and checked out the scene (while dogging the rain as well) !!!!!!!!!!!

They've been on a cross country tour and they were in town for the DNC (and were in Tampa for the RNC) . . . . They were out at Charlotte Motor Speedway earlier in the day as well . . .

Headed Down East this past weekend to handle some family business; One was to say goodbye to Grandma Ruth (1920-2012) who passed away last week and do some work on my Grandma Hazel (1930-2010) house with my familia . . . There was quite a bit of work and time for refelection this past weekend, but it was all good at the end of the weekend . . . .

Having a new ride now (2010 Mitsuibishi Lancer) I decided to take it out on its first extended ride and go somewhere where I haven't been in a few years, the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its always cool to go up there this time of year when the leaves are changing color for Fall . . . Though I missed the prime week by about 7-10 days (leaves were starting to fall off the trees at the higher elevations) there were still some good spots to see as I traveled down from Blowing Rock to Asheville. I also stopped by the Lynn Cove Viaduct, Grandfather Mountain (home of the Mile High Swinging Bridge) and Mount Mitchell (highest peak in the Eastern US). If you've never driven the BRP during the fall, go ahead and make plans to do it next October . . . You wont be disappointed !!!!!!
