    I agree but if the draft is as deep at WR as all the experts are saying the Panthers should be able to get an upgrade in the 2 or 3rd round.

    no, but a solid 2nd round pick and a decent FA like Burleson would be good

    That's a lot of resources into wide receiver for a run-first team that's trying to save money.

    that's right, and if Smitty went down again the entire team wouldn't collapse around him . . . AGAIN. How many times will they try and get away with a crucial position so thin? They don't have to do it every year do they? And I do think WR is important for them because even a run-first team has to have SOMETHING at WR for Ds to respect.
    Also, maybe you're forgetting how much money will be freed up with peppys departure.
    They should be able to handle resigning current vital players and grab a few decent FAs in addition to signing that pricey rook crop they'll be trucking in for well under 20 million don't ya think?
